"In October, 1939, one could, if so inclined, do any of the following: dine at the Canary Cottage, meet a friend over a nickel coke at the Phoenix Drug, catch a train to anyplace at the Union Station, take in a ball game at Stoll Field, or go dancing at Joyland. You could also attend Worship service at First Christian Church. Only the last named activity is still possible, as all of these other institutions have long since vanished. 50 years from now it will still be possible to attend services at First Church."  October 29, 1989, Walter Johnston 
 

 

     October 10, 2004, First Christian celebrated the 65th Anniversary of the church. Jack Austin, former youth minister, was the speaker for the day, Jack lead us noe memory lane and then to the foot of the cross. Attendance was over 300. The Hewletts, Richard Giles, and Barbara Esenbock Frizzell presented the special music for this day. A meal was provided and great fellowship was enjoyed by all, re-acquaining with old friends.

     October 21, 2007,  the church celabrated the 68th Anniversary, speaking was Ernie Perry a former youth minister of First and now with Southland Christian Church. The music was provided by "The Master Servants" and "The Diggles Family". Special recoginition was give to the three remaing charter members, Betty Bowman Esenbock, Betty Easley Peters, and Chester Harold Easley. Following the service a pitch in meal on the grounds was enjoyed by all.

 

                                                                                                     

For 33 years First Christian Church has parked cars for the    Football   games, the cost for parking has always been a donation to the First Christian Youth Fund. The parking program was started by Wayne & Linda Fahs, John Fryman, Jeff Elam and others and continues to day with  Wayne & Linda, Dea & Ruth, Betty, Joe and Bill.  See Ya in the Fall, Go Cats!
